How One Fan Turned a Passion for HKPL into Hong Kong’s Largest Fan-Led Fantasy Football Community through MyClubtap
When Marcus Ng, a lifelong fan and follower of the Hong Kong Premier League (HKPL), envisioned a fantasy football experience for local fans, he had a modest goal: gather 100 passionate followers to join in. But what followed far exceeded expectations.
As the creator of HKFootballTalk — a popular Instagram channel dedicated to HKPL news and updates — Marcus approached us at MyClubtap with a simple but powerful idea: launch the first-ever fantasy football league for the HKPL. There was no existing platform for local fans to experience the thrill of managing HKPL squads week-to-week, and Marcus saw the gap as an opportunity.
Thanks to MyClubtap’s flexible and customizable fantasy platform, Marcus was able to configure league rules, salary caps, and trades to suit HKPL’s unique structure.
Here’s what Marcus has to say about his experience:
I started a Fantasy League through MyClubtap, shadowing the real life Hong Kong Premier League, in an attempt to increase the interest in the local football scene. Throughout setting up, designing and running the game, MyClubtap have been very helpful in providing advice and explanations regarding the features and the functions of the game, which is why the game has been run very smoothly thus far. As of right now, there are just shy of 1000 active members, and it has become one of the most talked about topics in Hong Kong football. It wouldn’t have been possible without the help from MyClubtap.
Fast forward to the end of the 2024–25 season, and the results speak volumes:
